A little behind on the blog, but here's a rundown of what we've done this week:

Sunday:
We watched a DVD "Mysteries of Egypt" and the kids learned about mummies and pyramids and pharoahs. That goes right along with the Joseph story we've been reading about ... and how he gathered up the harvest from surrounding countries for the coming famine.

Monday (Dad's day off):
The Boy picked up his Spiderman numbers book and wanted to do some "work," so we worked on ordinal numbers (first, second, etc). He wanted to keep going and going. SO, we let him. He can list first through tenth without mistakes. (CHeck that off the state kindy skils list! HA!).

The Girl did some drawing and a page that The Boy wanted her to color in the book.

They found some magnets in a drawer and went through the house discovering what the magnets would stick to. Over spaghetti, we had a discussion about how magnets work (positive and negative attracting, etc) and Dad explained that magnets were all over ... even in the ceiling fan cooling us -- "that's what makes it go 'round," The Girl asked? That's a little over her head (HA!!). I showed them some illustrations in a science book and we played with the magnets on top and below the table and made the one on "top" dance. They also made a paperclip "walk" ... fun!!

We played The Boy's "Show Me the Wild" DVD game. He LOVES this. National Geographic stuff is GREAT!!

They also played some word flashcard games (identify the sight word) with Dad.

Not bad for a day "off" of school!!

Tuesday:
We talked about the moon (our "main" unit, right now) and how it reflects the sun -- just like we, as Christians, reflect the light of the SON! A flashlight in a darkened bathroom and a mirror illustrated this. They LOVED this ... even The Baby!!

We had a homeschool group cooking class -- making dairy-free, egg-free cobbler. I taught it, and it was great fun. All six kids who showed up had a part (stirring, measuring, etc). We talked about kitchen safety and cleanliness and then sampled the goods. SMILE!!
A funny thing, even though the kids were a span of ages (from 5-11) they played together for AN HOUR making movies (one of which was entitled "Hail to the Queen" -- THe Boy was a knight and The Girl was a princess). There was NO arguing. AT ALL!
I was amazingly impressed!

That night, the kids and I played the world's longest game of UNO. It was about 45 minutes long. The Boy paid attention, followed the rules of the game and STUCK WITH IT!! That's HUGE for him. He's doing so well. The Girl was ready to quit -- and at one point she DID have an UNO -- but she kept at it, too. SO, endurance, patience, fine motor skils, color recognition, co-operation ... all from an UNO game!

Thursday:
Park Day. We meet up with at least one other HSing family and the kids play (and fight!) and do the "socialization" thing. (HA!!).

Friday:
We're attending the HSing group's Harvest Party tonight. I'll post pictures. The Girl wants to dress up as "Bellle" from "Beauty and the Beast." She said, "I'll wear a beautiful dress. And you can put my hair up in a 'pile, Mommy." HA! The Boy will be a "green, scary dinosaur."
Friday:
